Cornwall Board Of Education- What We Do

The Cornwall Board of Education is responsible for the governance and supervision of the Cornwall Central School District. We are a seven-member board, elected by the community to four-year terms. Our primary role is to ensure that all students in the district have access to a high-quality education that meets their individual needs.

We accomplish this through setting district policy, approving the budget, hiring and evaluating the superintendent, and overseeing curriculum and instruction. We also advocate on behalf of our students and families at the local, state, and federal levels.

In addition to our governing responsibilities, we also provide support and resources to our schools and staff. We offer professional development opportunities for educators, sponsor community events such as Family Math & Science Nights, and partner with local organizations to expand learning opportunities for our students.

We began as a small school district in the early 1800s, when education was not compulsory and many children did not attend school. Over time, we have grown into a large and thriving district, with over 10,000 students attending our schools. We are now one of the largest employers in Cornwall, with over 1,200 staff members working in our schools.

We are proud to offer a wide range of educational programs and services to our students, from early childhood education all the way through to adult education. Cornwall Board Of Education- Our Members

The Cornwall Board of Education is made up of seven members who are elected by the community to serve staggered three-year terms. The Boardufffds primary responsibilities are to hire the Superintendent of Schools, approve the district budget, set district policies, and oversee the educational program.

Trustees also serve as liaisons to various committees and task forces and represent the district at community events.

The Cornwall Board of Education typically meets once a month on the second Tuesday at 7:00pm in the Administration Building located at 44 Hudson Street, Cornwall NY 12518. Meetings are open to the public and an opportunity for community members to voice their concerns or share ideas with the board. Board meetings are also live streamed on YouTube for those unable to attend in person.
